The Horticulture Exploration Day is an engaging recruitment and educational event hosted by the Texas A&M University Department of Horticultural Sciences for prospective students (primarily in high school), parents, teachers, and Extension Agents interested in exploring the many opportunities available in horticulture. This event will take place on June 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Horticulture and Forestry Science Building on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Participants will learn about degree programs, certificates, and career pathways within the horticulture industry while connecting with faculty, academic advisors, industry professionals, and current Horticultural Sciences Student Ambassadors. Attendees will gain firsthand insight into the diverse and growing field of horticulture through interactive sessions and networking opportunities.
As part of the experience, participants may choose two student emphasis areas to explore during the event. Sessions are designed to introduce students to specialized areas within horticultural sciences through demonstrations, discussions, and potential hands-on learning experiences. Available emphasis areas include Plant Propagation, Plant Physiology, Fruit Breeding, Vegetable Breeding, Plant Genomics and Biotechnology, Controlled Environment Horticulture, Floral Design, and Landscape Design. Participants ages 15 and older may have opportunities to engage in hands-on activities, while younger attendees are welcome to observe.
The event will also feature dedicated parent, teacher, and agent sessions focused on answering common questions about horticulture careers, earning potential, scholarships, student support resources, and educational opportunities within the field. Additionally, sponsoring businesses and industry partners will host interactive tables where attendees can learn more about career options, industry trends, internships, and real-world applications of horticultural sciences.
An optional networking lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for participants who register for lunch in advance. This informal gathering will provide an opportunity to meet other attendees, faculty, students, and industry representatives before the main program begins.
